The Fourth Luminous Mystery

by Fr. Francis Martin

Here is the mystery of Light.

He shone,
and it took their breath away.
The Father speaks once again from the cloud:
“This is my Beloved Son,
listen to him.”

Now Tabor becomes
a new and greater Sinai.
At Sinai, Moses received the Law
and Elijah became the father of all prophets;

They are there with Jesus at Tabor.
The Word of Law and
the Word of prophecy
now achieve their brilliance
in the Word made flesh.

The three disciples catch
a glimpse of the Light within
as it bursts forth like the sunshine.
Who knows their joy?

The glory of the Beloved
will transform us one day.
Even now it is a lamp
shining in a dark place
until the morning star
rises in our hearts.

O Jesus,
put your hand over our eyes,
and then, as you pass by,
Let us also gain but
a glimpse of your beauty.
It will strengthen us
for the days of darkness.

As you pass,
let us hear you say your name,
the name the Father gave you
before the world began:

Your name
is
Mercy.
